Magnetic Field Gradiometers

Bartington Instruments provides a number of single and three-axis fluxgate magnetic field gradiometers for measuring the gradient of magnetic fields. Available as sensor only, for mounting on a non-magnetic cart for field surveys, or as complete system, the equipment is ideal for small and large surveys. These are frequently used in application such as Archaeology Geophysics, Geotechnics and UXO detection.

Grad601 Single Axis Fluxgate Gradiometer. Comprises either one or two Grad-01-1000L vertical component gradiometers mounted on a rigid carrying bar, together with a data logger and battery power pack. Ideal for walking surveys along a grid, it is typically used for archaeology geophysics, forensics, UXO detection or pipe and cable location.

Grad-01-1000L Gradient Sensor. High stability single axis fluxgate gradient sensor with a 1m separation between the sensing elements and an effective sensitivity of 0.03nT/m. Easily mounted on the Non-Magnetic Cart to perform multi-sensor GPS based surveys. Applications include, archaeology, UXO detection, pipeline detection and forensics.

Grad-13 Digital Three-Axis Gradiometer. Provides high resolution vector measurements on land or in water, with a measuring range of ±70 or ±100µT. Digital corrections applied to the measuring sensor and gradient data provides a very high accuracy vector instrument with the ability to obtain accurate total field data. Typically used UXO detection, geotechnical surveys, or in archaeology geophysics. A submersible version (to a depth of 200m), and can be deployed in boreholes. Can also be mounted on the Non-Magnetic Cart for multi-sensor surveys.

Grad-03 Three-Axis Gradiometer. Two three-axis fluxgate sensors mounted with a range of separation from 300mm to 1m. Available in land and marine versions. Associated Grad-03ACU enables correction of scaling, offset and alignment errors, and displays gradients with a resolution of 1nT. Applications include UXO detection, pipe & cable location, and geotechnical surveys.

Non-Magnetic Cart A lightweight cart made from carbon fibre, designed to carry up to 12 Grad-13 or Grad-01 gradiometers as well as their data logger and battery power. It can be used by a single operator or towed behind a vehicle.
